6 Day Wine Journey

A mountain wine journey through Shangri-La, Benzilan, Meili and Cizhong, where Tibetan culture, remote landscapes and high-altitude vineyards unfold day by day.

Day 1

Arrival in Shangri-La & Transfer to Benzilan

Arrive in Shangri-La and transfer to Songtsam Lodge Benzilan. Settle into the valley setting and begin the journey with a welcome dinner at the lodge.

Day 2

Benzilan Wine Rituals → Meili

Begin with a wine offering at Shuibiansi Temple, then visit Zhaxi Walnut Tree Winery for a vineyard walk and guided tasting. Continue toward Meili with a stop at Dongzhulin Monastery and a traditional prayer flag printing experience.

Day 3

Sunrise over Meili & Journey to Cizhong

Witness sunrise over Kawagebo, then visit Bengong Monastery and enjoy a monastic lunch. Later, stop at Luo Di Winery for tasting before continuing to Cizhong for an elegant wine pairing dinner.

Day 4

Cizhong Vineyards & Winery Experience

Explore Songtsam’s vineyards with insights into local terroir and seasonal viticulture. In the afternoon, tour the winery, enjoy a guided tasting, and end the day with dinner and evening mass at the historic Cizhong Catholic Church.

Day 5

Return to Shangri-La & Farewell Evening

Travel back via Benzilan and continue to Shangri-La. Join a traditional Tibetan incense workshop, reflect on the journey with your guide, then conclude with a cellar visit and farewell dinner.

Day 6

Departure

After breakfast, transfer to Diqing Shangri-La Airport for departure, taking with you the landscapes, stories and wines of this Himalayan journey.

This journey was nothing like I expected. The landscapes were breathtaking, but what stayed with me most were the quiet moments — walking through remote vineyards, sharing stories over wine, and experiencing Tibetan culture in such an authentic way. It felt deeply personal.

Everything felt very well designed, from the transitions between locations to the balance of activities and downtime. The wine tastings, monastery visits, and local experiences all connected naturally. It never felt rushed, just immersive and effortless.

I came for the wine, but left with a much deeper appreciation of the region. The combination of high-altitude vineyards, local traditions, and stunning mountain scenery made this trip truly unique. It felt intimate, refined, and incredibly memorable.
